Livid button pads

December 10th, 2009

I was looking for a small foot pedal to control Looper in Ableton Live. I found the Logidy UMI3 USB Midi Foot Controller. This is a really nice, simple, solid pedal that connects to a computer through USB. There is software available on their website that will let you reconfigure the pedals to do neat tricks, like cycle through midi notes with each push of the same button. The only thing I didn’t like about it was that it didn’t come with a USB cable. But we’ve all probably got a drawer full of them, right? Check out the video.

Hello Android

July 23rd, 2009

I’ve been testing Google Android on my phone for about a week now. So far so good. I like the tight integration of Gmail and Google Calendar and there are alot of great apps available on this platform. I am writing this post using WPtoGo, a great little client for wordpress blogs. I’ve also installed a plugin that will format my site to be mobile friendly. If you happen to be reading this post on a mobile device, please comment and let me know how it looks. Thanks!

Julie and I went to see the Gillian Welch show last night at Largo, a nice 280 seat venue in Los Angeles. David Rawlings is an exceptional guitarist, he sways and bends as his fingers move effortlessly over the fret board of a 1935 Epiphone Olympic archtop. Gillian Welch, in a simple dress and cowboy boots, strums her 1956 Gibson J-50 and stomps in time. The beautiful music these two play is uplifting, powerful, spiritual, melancholic and soulful. They are absolutely hypnotic.

We got to meet Gillian after the show. We were really nervous and I was just mumbling things to Julie so I wouldn’t freak out before we got to talk to her. She is such a sweet person, a genuinely kind human being. She really made an effort to connect with everyone she talked to. We had a wonderful time.

Revelator

June 28th, 2009

Gillian Welch’s is one of those musicians that I’m always mesmerized by. The simple chords and harmonies in her songs and David Rawilng’s droning guitar leads are simply beautiful.

I’ve been wanting to do an album of cover songs and I’ve chosen to start with a cover of “Revelator”. On this recording I play acoustic guitar, Moog Voyager, drum loops and vocals.
